School may be out for summer – almost, anyway – but since when has time meant anything to the Doctor? For our last Sydney day event of the year, the DWCA will be schooling attendees on some of the educational institutions the Doctor and friends have visited during their travels – from Coal Hill to Brendon, from Deffry Vale to Cambridge and beyond.
Plus, we’ll be hosting our first ever DWCA Spelling Bee! If you’ve ever wanted the chance to show off your sci-fi spelling skills, and win a prize while you’re at it, this is the place to do it. Make sure you study, though, or you could find yourself up a Dalek sewer without a paddle!
There’ll be plenty of merchandise to peruse on the day, with the First Doctor finally joining his later incarnations in Pop! Vinyl form. Graphic novel fans should meanwhile keep their eyes out for the latest collections featuring the Ninth and Eleventh Doctors.
There will also be new audio dramas from Big Finish Productions. The Fifth Doctor returns to Gallifrey to reluctantly take up the role of President in Time in Office, accompanied by a baffled Tegan – and reuniting with Leela on the way! Meanwhile, in a political story of a different kind, the Seventh Doctor, Ace and Mel meet the Parliament of the Silurians in The Silurian Candidate. There’s also the first instalment of Torchwood: Aliens Among Us, the much-anticipated ‘fifth series’ of Torchwood starring John Barrowman and Eve Myles, and endorsed by Russell T Davies himself!
