Strange things can be found on the streets of 1950s Soho: gangsters, alien artefacts, and a 21st century Welsh police officer are just the start of it… The comedic combination that made previous Torchwood adventure Ghost Mission a delight are reunited – Sergeant Andy playing the down-to-earth straight man opposite the morally ambiguous and camp-as-Christmas Norton. Writer James Goss has hit on the canny idea of inverting the premise of the previous Andy/Norton tale, bringing Andy to the ‘50s to act as Norton’s assessor. With Andy as a temporal fish out of water, this one has a flavour of ‘Torchwood does Life on Mars’.

Many years ago, something unspeakable happened at Fetch Priory. And now, a production crew have arrived at the place where it all happened, shooting a cheap and nasty horror film based on the events of that terrible time. But when the crew discover that the horrors of the past have intruded on the present, it’s up to one of the cast – secretly a Torchwood agent – to stop the manifestation of Death itself… Producer James Goss and director/script editor Scott Handcock have hit on a canny idea, importing some familiar Doctor Who monsters into Torchwood, where they stand to benefit from the strong characterisation, adult tone and moral complexity that typify the range. Launching with the Fendahl – an underexplored classic series monster with loads of potential for cosmic horror – is a brilliant move and writer Tim Foley (other credits?) should provide plenty of chills.
Torchwood #44: Rhys and Ianto’s Excellent Barbecue
Rhys is planning a lads’ night in. Barbie in the back yard, few tins, mates and bants. But the only person who turns up is Ianto – who hasn’t been invited. Hell is other people, especially when they’ve brought board games.
Something goes wrong. The two of them could be trapped together for eternity at a barbecue where the sausages never cook, and worse, the brewskis remain forever out of reach.

Years after she parted company with the Doctor, Jo returns to Llanfairfach to find the old mining town transformed into a thriving economy built on green technology. But when an encounter with a mysterious man leads her down the old mine shaft she discovers that beneath the town’s bright exterior lies a hive of wriggling pests – GIANT MAGGOTS! Torchwood’s Welsh setting makes it a natural fit for a sequel to iconic Third Doctor story The Green Death, and this script sees beloved characters from different eras collide. With the joyful optimism of Jo counterbalanced with Jack’s rather harsher outlook on life, the two have the makings of a great double act. AND THERE ARE MAGGOTS IN IT!
Torchwood #43: The Three Monkeys
Andy Davidson’s been ordered to watch over a local businessman. Everything’s always gone right for him, and Andy’s long wondered why.

When a spaceship crashes outside Cardiff, both Suzie Costello and Margaret Blaine see a golden opportunity for themselves – and each is willing to kill the other in order to get what they want. But when an alien device ties them together, they will have to set aside their competing interests in order to escape from the police, Torchwood, and the warp missiles that threaten to destroy half the planet… Pairing Suzie with Margaret is an inspired move – both characters are authority figures with their own secret agenda and both have complex relationships with their respective families. Writer Lisa McMullin (UNIT: Tempest) should provide a memorable adventure for this unlikely duo.
Torchwood #42: Ex Machina
Ianto Jones is Torchwood. Ianto Jones is the defender of a deserted city, a lone crusader who keeps the empty streets safe.
One day he meets one of the few survivors. She needs his help – because she’s being chased by a darkness. A darkness which says it loves her.

The Church of the Outsiders believe that mankind must ascend to the stars in order to evolve. Dr Owen Harper believes that the Church is a dangerous cult that must be stopped. Captain Jack Harkness believes he may be the Church’s salvation… Why grab it? Whilst all the leads have starred in their own adventures for Big Finish, this is the first time all five of them have been brought together for a classic Torchwood tale. It’s a real ensemble piece, with each of member of the team given their moment to shine. With Guy Adams (More Than This, Outbreak) on writing duties, this 3CD box set could be one of the highlights of the year.

Having been killed off in Torchwood’s opening episode, the character of Suzie remains ripe for exploration. What set her down the path that resulted in her betrayal? Torchwood 2.3 Ghost Mission
A Full Cast Audio Adventure on a single CD starring Tom Price as Sergeant Andy, guest starring Samuel Barnett as Assessor Norton.
Andy gets a chance to prove whether he has what it takes to join Torchwood, but it won’t be an easy interview – his assessor is decidedly stricter, and more spectral, than most. The comedic double act of Price and Barnett make delightful work of a script from the perennially witty James Goss.
